Since January 2016, Estonia provides the most generous incentive in the Baltic States - a cash rebate fund for foreign film companies using Estonia as a location for their production. Support can be applied for full-length feature films, high-end TV series, animation and animation series, documentaries, and post-production services.
The amount of aid is calculated as a percentage of the spending in Estonia (up to 30%) and paid out retrospectively after all the expenses are audited. The maximum grant can be applied if the film production uses Estonian- based filmmakers, actors, and other production crew. It can also be applied for if the story is Estonian and / or set in Estonia.
Estonian Film Institute also has a Co-Production fund which is allocated for Estonian producers for an international full-length feature film, long documentary film, or animation. The co-production support allocated by Estonian Film Institute shall be spent on economic activity in Estonia.
There are also a few regional Film Funds to attract more filmmakers to a respective region in Estonia.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information, or send us a project you would like to produce in Estonia with us, either as a Production Service or as a Co-Production.
The three Baltic States – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania - are a great mix of different eras and styles, where the past and the future, east and west, intersect, and where the comforts of the modern world are combined with historical settings. From our film hub in Estonia one can find look-alike locations for Finland, Norway, India, and European capitals such as Amsterdam, Berlin, and Vienna.
Tallinn is the capital of Estonia. Its medieval Old Town, dating back as far as the 11th Century, is one of a kind in the world. The centre of neighbouring Riga with its pastel and Art Nouveau architecture has been called the ‘Paris of the North’, and Vilnius with its cobblestone streets and gas lamps already makes you feel like you have stepped onto a film set. All three capitals are distinguished with UNESCO World Heritage recognition.
But make no mistake, the Baltics are not only a showcase for history. Tallinn’s downtown, with glass and steel skyscrapers, seaside promenades, and a hip fusion of authentic and modernised industrial architecture from the end of the 19th Century, transports one from medieval times to modern city life of Scandinavia.
The Baltics are well known for their untouched nature and beautiful countryside full of virgin forests, sandy beaches, wetlands, and endless fields. The three countries are also rich in beautiful manor houses and castles of different styles and eras.
Nature offers 4 distinct seasons, all with entirely different scenery. During the wintertime the snow-covered Old Towns of Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius offer magical Winter Wonderland views and atmosphere unlike anywhere in the world. The summer season from June to August, on the other hand, offers up to 24 hours of daylight, warm temperatures, and exceptionally long and scenic magic hours.
